Kelly - Painting 66
...a quick sketch from memory in preparation for a future painting. Rick and I went canoeing a few weeks ago, but I didn't have my camera. At one point we saw two softshell turtles sunning on a log, and the scene was idyllic. I tried to memorize it, so I could record it when I got home. I didn't worry about detail when I painted, I just wanted to capture the feel of the dark river and shadows. The two turtles were so well camouflaged we almost didn't see them. Can you see them? They are on the left...
Matty starts back to school tomorrow, and summer comes to a screeching halt. This summer has been so much fun. We were hardly ever home...always outside in the woods or doing something (last week the tennis tourney in Cincinnati). I'm sad summer is coming to an end, but I want to get back in my studio and start painting again. I've done a lot of sketching of fairies and mermaids...just fun stuff. Now I need to get back to the challenge! I've fallen behind, but just a little...

Kelly, this really captures the mood you describe. I feel like I am right there discovering these turtles as you did. I look forward to your fairies and mermaids, too!!
