Hazy Morning #17
The morning fog was just lifting when this little barn caught my eye. The nearby hill was in shadow. When I scanned it I played a little with the contrast and decided the painting would benefit from more contrast ... so I darkened the foreground and then scanned again. Do you like the first or the second better? Here is the revised painting:

I like them both, but I think I prefer the first one a little bit more. I like the greater range of value in the foreground that show a bit more texture. Also it seems more like a foggy morning where the hues are toned down. In the second, the lighting is a little more dramatic and it seems more like a storm is just forming or breaking, with a dark cloud over us. Interesting comparison!
Really a touch choice here. They are both lovely. I can feel the coolness of the morning and mist in the air. I agree with Kristin - that I slightly prefer the first image and that the second seems a bit like a dark cloud is overhead. But, really both are so appealing to the eye! Very nice.
haha.....I like them both, so I'm not a good judge. The first has a softness that really feels like morning, but the second has the darkened foreground that makes me feel like I'm standing in the shadows of a pine looking out on the field. Beautiful...
