Striped Meadowhawk #74

The sun is finally shining again, after days of rain and even a little frost -- one of the last chances of the season to watch dragonflies. This is a careful field sketch of one. The dragonfly kept returning to a nearby strand of dead grass, and even landed on my hand a half a dozen times. Very considerate! Each time I had another piece of anatomy I was wondering about. Note how only his front feet rest on the strand of grass. He holds on with little barbs on the other four legs.

Pelikan foundtain pen and watercolor.

...love this fellow. I enjoy watching dragonflies too. Our weather has turned colder and they are now few and far between! I need to head over to the VOA meadow to see if I can find any die-hards!

In "Kerala", Our home state there is a festival called 'Onam'. Great mystic story is behind this festival and we always are happy to see dragonflies called 'Ona Thumbi' visiting us during this season...

congrats for the picture...

I love this one Elva...you have got the fragileness(is there such a word?) of the dragonfly. We have a lot buzzing around in Kolkata at the moment, but the all are at a distance, and one only sees little flecks flying!
