Yellowstone Spring #46

April and even May is full of snow showers in Yellowstone National Park. This morning everything was flocked with fresh snow and then dusted with frost crystals. Mountain bluebirds are hardy little birds, flitting about in the snow squalls. Whenever there is a spring snow storm they fly back down to the lower elevations where the roads are and where we can see them. When the snow leaves they spread throughout the park. We can still find them, but not nearly as many of them. Painted on Fabriano Artistico cold pressed 140# watercolor paper. --- a nice paper, but I think I like how Arches takes the paint just a tad better. Maybe I'm just more familiar with Arches.

Wow you are/were in Yellowstone! This is a delicate and fun travel scene with those adorable birds. By the way I see how much the shadows of the shrubs add to the realism ... a nice reminder, as I tend to be lazy and ignore including shadows at times ;)

...I haven't posted or visited for ages either. I can't wait to see the results of your traveling. I bet you've seen amazing things in the wilds...and we'll get to see it all in your paintings. Love these little bluebirds!
