CathyO, #6 - On pointe

A friend and I went to the ballet the other night.  We saw the Romantic "Giselle" staged as it was originally in Florence.  I was impressed with the rapid, clean movement of the dancer's feet and steadiness of their upper bodies.

Here, I tried to paint a suggestion of what enchanted me that evening.

The delicate washes that convey highlights and shadows, and the background soft wash, convey grace and delicacy-- a really nice approach for this subject.

There is something really nice about the watery quality of your washes. I am really fascinated by how the legs bleed into each other, at least on the back of the calves. I really like that, and it is something I would never think of doing.
