Kelly - Painting 8

Watercolor
12x16 Arches Cold Pressed 140 lb Paper
I saw this male cardinal at our local park. It was very cold and evening was starting to close in. He had puffed his feathers up for warmth and was strikingly beautiful against the dark winter sky. He is the same bird that shows up in painting three, but I painted him in a much looser style (and at a different angle...and I added in the branches...).

You did such a great job capturing the cold! I really like the snow piled up on the branches.

This is awesome, Kelly! The red is stunning and I love the snow on the branches. I miss seeing cardinals- used to visit my garden on Long Island, but not here in California.

Great piece! I like the composition and the color contrasts which make the painting really interesting!

Burrrrr! Your current weather just might have crept in on this one ... at least I think you are part of the country getting hammered.

This is a great cardinal, and I love the touches of snow ...

What a great composition and use of color! I can see his little eyes looking straight at us - so dramatic!
