Kelly - Painting 14

...this is the first time I ever used gouache. Wow! It's fun. I knew nothing about it except it was opaque watercolor. It's very relaxing to build color up slowly, and it's completely different than transparent watercolor. I quickly learned to work from dark to light. Not reserving the white of the paper felt weird, but I had fun with it. I don't think I've ever had so much texture in a painting. It's very easy to get lost in the detail...and very relaxing too. The background, however, is pure watercolor...

Hi Kelly,
Congrats on this achievement, I think that you did a marvelous job! love the colors and the detail, yet it's loose and capturing, caught my eye immediatly, well done! I've never used Goache either, so far it's been water colors, acrylics and oil, perhaps I may try Goache some day too.Keep up the great work, hugs, Karen.

Gorgeous rendition, Kelly! I am gouache-naive... your accomplishment here sure is a selling point for trying this medium. Wonderful texture to the feathers yet also the glassy clarity of the eyes... yum.

Wow! Your first attempt! I think you are going to enjoy gouache. It has a real snap, doesn't it.

I have used it a little. I wonder how many of my tubes will still open???

Glad to hear about your experience with gouache. I really haven't used it much although I may try some for lettering. Cute Owl!!

...thanks, Lorrie, Elva and Claire! It was fun...I think it works well (for me) for birds and detail, but I don't know how I would do using it for an entire painting. I liked using it as a supplement to watercolor.
