#011 Nene

No, I haven’t been to Hawaii lately, or ever for that matter. But this is a sleeping Nene, the world’s rarest goose and a resident of Hawaii. My photo was taken at wildlife Safari.

I’m trying to loosen up a little. It is harder for me to be loose than to handle detail. … This is still pretty detailed by most watercolor standards.

It's wonderful Elva! The little feathers by his face just makes the whole painting look detailed when it is not. Great light on the Nene.

Beautiful, beautiful rendition! The feathers on his neck have a wonderful warm golden glow!

Yes, he is glowing---just lovely, Elva~~
My son is just returning from Hawaii--I'll have to ask if he recognizes this ; ).

Your comment about going loose makes me wonder - are you seeking to be loose in all your work or just looser in general? This is very detailed, but beautiful all the same.

Hi Laure .... For me this is loose! I didn't paint every single feather. I dared to suggest. I'm trying to be looser some of the time. I used to spend hours and hours on careful drybrush watercolor detail. I now want to be more versatile.

So often 'loose' captures the essence.
