# 18 & 19, unusual flowers

"Bear cones", Boschniakia rossica
gouache and pen, 6 x 9"
(c) 2011

Cypripedium passerinum
watercolor and pen, 8 x 12"
(c) 2011

I am still working on a way to get pen into my botanical drawings, and to document all the interesting plants blooming around me before it's too late. I found both of these on a walk last weekend. I think painting them by hand instead of in photoshop was a little nicer even though it took more time.

How cool! Isn't it amazing how fast those flowers come and go? Nice work on both images!

...love those pine cones! ...and how lucky you are to have Cypripedium passerinum in your area. I'll never see it in forests around my house--to far south. It's gorgeous!

Those cones are really amazing! I applaud your patience, and the outcome is so pleasing. Beautiful interplay of yellows and purples.

The colors and patterns are a beautiful combination. The values give it just the right depth. Love the variety of the pen marks.
